How Much Fruit To Eat On A Raw Vegan Diet?

In this video, I talk about how much fruit you need to be eating on a fruit-based raw vegan diet, or the 80/10/10 diet.

I show you an example of one of mine and Paul’s meals (mangoes and mangosteens) and make recommendations for your meals.

Just multiply your body weight (in pounds) x 10. This will give you your ‘BMR’ which is very roughly how many calories your body uses while at rest during a day – plus or minus 10%. Then simply add any physcal activities that you do (look on line) such as yoga/pilates etc, and then add the ‘calories used’ for the activities and this will give you your approximate overall calorie requirement. Of course you can play with it a bit so as you make sure you always feel satiated and not under-carbed!

Hi there, Yes there are a good few mosquitoes here and yes we do get bitten by them even on a raw vegan diet. In fact perhaps we get bitten more because we taste much better now? lol!!

    thank you!

could you do a respond video to kostayoga’s 80/10/10 challenges: I want YOUR advice this time! video please?!

  •   Yutezu  |

People! Forget about calories, instead listen to your body! Eat when you’re hungry and eat til you’re satisfied. Calorie forcing is helping no one. 🙂

  •   Sahandra Rivera  |

    YES!
You do not need to be counting calories if you are eating the right things! You could eat 100 broccoli each day and reach your caloric limit VS eating cereal and reaching your caloric limit! QUALITY vs quantity!

    Do u workout ? And if u do what u do for workout … Thank u 🙂

  •   1hopefulman  |

I guess raw fooders are much sweeter because they eat a lot of fruit and so they smell better and taste better. lol

I love the idea of eating only fruit, but I can’t wrap my head around how much food is consumed by one person. This diet doesn’t seem kind to the earth and certainly not possible for every single person to eat – we would have more food shortages all over the world than we do now. Seems like adding in even just a little bit of fats and protein, with still high raw fruits & veg is a much more sustainable diet and loving to those around us through sharing the excess food.

  •   Rawsomehealthy  |

I don’t think short-changing ourselves when it comes to a truly healthy diet (that ideally matches human physiology) is a good thing and believe it is inextricably linked to the lowering of human consciousness, which has gone on for so long. Instead of living in fear of everything we need to re-program ourselves and believe in what we can do together as human beings and make the planet a better place for everyone and everything.

  •   WOGI5M  |

where do you get your proteins from?

  •   Rawsomehealthy  |

Fruits & greens give you plenty of protein if you eat enough.

Hi, really enjoying your videos. Just out of curiosity, do you generally consume bananas virtually everyday?
Keep up the good work and hope to hear from you soon.

  •   Rawsomehealthy  |

    In general yes.

  •   Stefan Müller  |

I’m allways kind of shocked when I see what amounts of fruit should be eaten. Those mangos in one day for you? ISn’t it easier to start with less amounts in a transition phase and increase it linear over let’s say three months? Most people have to much fat when they start raw eating, they want to loose it and it delivers energy when fruit isn’t enough in the beginning.

  •   Stefan Müller  |

Not to mention mention digestion problems and weight gain when a meat eater with full digestive organs and 20kg too much fat starts with 3000 or more calories from fruits immediately.

  •   Rawsomehealthy  |

A meat diet is much more calorifically dense than a raw food diet based on fruit. This is why you need to eat more to get the same amount of calories. If you eat less amounts during the transition phase then you will crave your old foods and feel ‘under powered’, this is never a good idea.

  •   h00dini  |

i was waiting for you to stand up

  •   RosineTheSoulHealer  |

I’m not able (yet) to eat enough fruit. :'( It makes me feel nauseated very quickly, I’m like, beeeuuuarghhh…. and I have to stop eating or else I’d vomit. I don’t know why that is. Bananas I can eat up to 5 or so in one meal but other fruit is really difficult, especially water rich fruit like pears. Even mangoes are difficult, more than 1 or max 2 at once is not possible. Do you know why that is, by any chance? (I don’t eat overt fats, gluten or animal products)

  •   Rawsomehealthy  |

I dont know how long you have been transitioning to a raw diet but here is a list of points that can help:
    1. Make sure you drink plenty of water so your urine clear
    2. Only eat properly ripe fruits
    3. Try eating green smoothies (bananas/dates) and leave alone sub/acid & acid fruits for a while
    4. Do mono mealing
    5. Make sure you do get exercise so you build up a true hunger before you eat
    6. No drinking during or straight after a meal
    7. Eat your smoothie and dont just drink it-mix with saliva.

  •   RosineTheSoulHealer  |

Thank you so much for the tips! 🙂 I really appreciate. <3

Can you eat 801010 while pregnant??

  •   Rawsomehealthy  |

Yes you can. You are best getting in touch with Dr Doug Graham who is the author of 80/10/10 and who has a daughter raise on a low fat raw vegan diet. You can contact him and ask questions via his page on the website vegsource dot kom forward slash talk forward slash raw

Thank you for the great information, Yulia…do you only eat breakfast with lunch or dinner? About how much greens and vegetables do you eat during the week?

  •   Rawsomehealthy  |

I eat 3 meals a day on average now due to all the activity that I do. Greens come to about 2% or just under on average.

  •   sarah high  |

Nobody asked me, but here’s my 2 cents worth…That sounds good on paper, but what invariably will happen is instead of drawing on their fat reserves when the fruit calories are low, the person gets cravings and goes off the diet. So no weight loss happens.

  •   sarah high  |

That is a very inspirational idea, and only wish the whole world understood…I intend to make it my life’s work to spread that very message!

  •   Maria Fernandez  |

I been trying to go to you web site but is not working, are you out of business??

  •   shahilagh  |

Are you serious? you eat all of those manogos? 🙂 that is cool! someone told me we should eat 3,4 fruits max a day! is this right?!

    •   Rawsomehealthy  |

You can eat as many mangos as you need to meet your nutritional/calorific needs, so there is no set amount you should or should not eat. Enjoy!

Tomorrow becomes a monster.I’m not too sure if I’ve seen a video on what you spend on this lifestyle. Could you give us an estimate on what you spend a week on this diet. Thanks again for your inspiring videos. Best wishes to you both.

  •   Rawsomehealthy  |

Hi there,When we were back in the UK we were spending around 200 pounds a week on food. Obviously it does depend a lot on where you are based amongst other factors. For example I know people in the UK who could get much cheaper bananas than we could get. Thanks for your kind words! P & Y

Wow, that sounds like a great meal you have there, and I wish I could do the same, but where I live, that would cost me about 20 dollar per day, for one person, and we are 5 in the family… I would have to work as an MD or something to afford this, in Asia yes, in Sweden, no way! 🙁 i wish someone would create a food plan for all of us who don’t live in the tropics. (Love your videos though!!

hi. Can you tell me the name of the song you put on the intro? I love the bass sounds on it.. I also love your videos. Thanks

  •   Melo Last  |

It’s not that realistic to eat all that fruit if u live in that states. Who has access to all that fruit in an abundance??? If U live in Jamaica, Costa Rica, yes, u will have access to fruit in abundance.

  •   Melo Last  |

Those fruits you have on the video are very exotic. My local BJs or Costcos only have apples and others. I only eat organic so that’s the only thing i find in wholesale. You love in Thailand so it’s going to be easier access to fruits that’s all I’m saying

  •   Melo Last  |

    You live. Sorry for typo.

  •   interspool  |

Yulia, I am 2 months into the rawtill4 diet and I still find it difficult to get all my calories in every day. I eat over 3k (measured by digital scale and cronometer — ABSOLUTE MUST!!!) and lift weights 4 days a week. My lunch of 9-10 bananas takes me over an hour to sip down. I feel great when my belly isn’t about to pop, but I must admit it’s uncomfortable. How long did it take for you and your husband to be able to adjust to eating 1000+ calorie meals in one sitting of fruit?

  •   kaela whittingham  |

You are so lucky that you can eat that many good quality mangos in a day
    without going broke.

  •   minerva bascara  |

Do you snack on fruits or veggies in between meals?

  •   Tangkwa Junsuta  |

Only two meals? That’s great used to think had to spend all the time
eating. How many mangoes was in the 3kg

  •   Planet Vanessa  |

    Must be so expensive

  •   Vegan Nurse Practitioner  |

What part of those manostens do you eat? Do you scrape the skins of the
flesh? The white things look like seeds, can you eat them?

  •   Csh Johny  |

can i eat before i go to sleep if i am hungry.? but i dont want to get fat.
i want to lose my weight. i am eat 1800~2000(85% fruit)calories in a day
and i workout(riding or walk) for 1hour! i am korean.. so i can understand
your video just little. sad..! i want to be fruitrian. i need your help. 🙂

  •   cruciferousvegetable  |

The real challenge is that those two dinners which together represent
pretty much what one would eat in a day would cost me at least a total of
$40 minimum if I was creative about obtaining the food by the case from the
    asian mkt. That is $1200/month.

I would have to live on bananas, and I really am not the biggest fan of
them. I could live on mangos, mangosteen, watermelon, papaya and durian,
but I simply will not pay $1200/mo for food until my student loans are paid
off or until I make over $100k/yr.

I think for non-six-figure-incomed individuals barley, beans, steamed
veggies and some fruit is going to have to work.

Now I might start working on saving to acquire a small fruit orchard in
costa rica or something to make this lifestyle happen.
