Interview With Raw Vegan, 80/10/10 Powerlifter Mike Vlasaty

Can you grow muscle and lift heavy weights on a high fruit raw vegan diet? Where does the protein come from on this diet? In this interview Mike Vlasaty, a raw vegan powerlifter, shows how he can lift 4 times his own body weight and do one arm push-ups – all on the 80/10/10, high carb and low fat raw vegan diet, which he has been on since January 2008.

    Fabulous! 🙂 <3

I bet my sweet ass he’d hit 225 for 8 within two months just by eating properly. In other words, add steak and eggs to your diet already!

  •   Rawsomehealthy  |

Why would he want to eat steak and eggs and erode his health, if he can be raw vegan/healthy and get the results he is looking for?

  •   fruitandstrength  |

sorry bud, I already got 10 before. 😛

  •   Keith Brier  |

I went raw vegan and I feel great, two years now.

  •   Keith Brier  |

Oh and I am a weight lifting fool, the guys at the gym used to talk shit but now they are silent.

  •   jachno666  |

You have incisors for a reason

  •   Rawsomehealthy  |

You have incisors for a reason – to eat a healthy vegan diet, correct!

  •   RawVegan Bodybuilder  |

80 10 10 is the best diet if you want the ultimate health and sports performance

  •   ShawnandStefan  |

you fucking crazy? you have to look at the weight comparsiions and compensate ..your insane 140 pounds lifting 500 pounds is unreal..

  •   Candy Coated Poison  |

    yeah…took u longer though

  •   rugbyleagueman11  |

this is annoying. I used the 801010 diet and lost a lot of weight but my weight training went down. not enough power athletes are going to start using this diet until there is someone who is pushing real heavy weight. I went from a 120kg bench press to a 100kg bench press on the 801010 diet. now that I added meat back to get higher protein I am hitting a 130kg bench press. he calls himself a powerlifter I certainly don’t and hes only pressing 100kg. love the diet but does it work for strength?

  •   ShaolinHero1  |

I’ve thought about this a lot myself. I think a higher greens approach is definitely better than 80/10/10 but removing meat altogether, I dunno about that.

  •   ShaolinHero1  |

Are out out lifting them now?

  •   bigdaddytizzle1  |

He weighs 58 kgs, benches twice his weight, deadlifts over 3 times his body weight and does 100 1 armed push ups can you do that?…. I sincerely doubt it but feel free to post a video and prove me wrong!…… Most people that go wrong on the 80/10/10 weren’t eating enough food so didn’t have enough calories!

  •   Russell Taylor  |

maybe thats the reason why hes 58kg/127lb lean. Seems retarded that there plenty of higher protein vegan food yet still quote research from the 70’s but none of the newer stuff

  •   nick picalo  |

this guy is not that strong hes 58kg thats puny his arms have to travel half as far as someone who is normal sized not impressed

  •   Mary Cardell  |

For vegan recipes and a free logic book, go to: eatatmarys.blogspot.com

  •   niclas16895  |

    “hnhnehene not impressed” ..oh god

vegan = same muscle mass but less volume because less salt and water in the muscle

yes he is 58 kg and he do 150kg benchpress! so what the fuck? why you hatn´ ?

  •   niclas16895  |

150 kg not in this vid

  •   RosineTheSoulHealer  |

    Love Mike. He’s great. <3

  •   120jml  |

    WEAKSAUCE!!!!!!!!

  •   120jml  |

    FEATHERWEIGHT!!!!!

  •   120jml  |

    WEAKLING!!!!!!

  •   120jml  |

fruitandweaksauce should be your new name!!!!

  •   120jml  |

Because steak and eggs will greatly increase his strength. And by the way YOU ARE GROSSLY MISINFORMED!!!!! Steak and eggs are VERY HEALTHY FOR YOU!!! Fruits and some veggies ARE NOT!!!!!

  •   120jml  |

Eating ANY kind of vegan diet is the WORST MISTAKE YOU COULD EVER MAKE in your life!!!!

  •   120jml  |

    58kg OF PURE FAIL!!!!!!

  •   MrCanadianWitch  |

Fruits and veggies are bad for you? Well that goes against every single nutrition course out there.

  •   120jml  |

Most fruits and some veggies are NOT good for you Yes. Of course it does and it goes against your dumb ideal of eating 6 meals a day.

  •   MrCanadianWitch  |

Lol wtf? I eat breakfast, lunch and dinner, I do not eat six times a day. Where are you getting these random ideas?

  •   120jml  |

You are a meat-head and thus you follow bodybuilding dogma thus eating 6 times a day which makes me sick. Oh 3 times is just as bad TOO MUCH EATING!!!!!!

  •   MrCanadianWitch  |

Wow, your ignorance is amazing. You assume because I workout and lift heavy, that I workout and eat like everyone else. But everyone I know eats differently. A friend of mine eats one large meal a day, another friend of mine eats two times a day and another of my friends eats however many times he feels that day. 3 times a day is too much eating? I eat around 2,800 calories a day, that is not a lot of food for 200. And sometimes I miss meals, due to life, job, etc. Your argument is invalid.

  •   Elliott Atwell  |

Clearly you have no understanding of hypertrophy, and a vegan diet does not mean lower sodium intake. And no, Mike cannot bench press 150 kg, nowhere close.

  •   Elliott Atwell  |

If you’re an endurance athlete who doesn’t have to worry about endogenous testosterone production, muscle repair, hypertrophy, or strength gains; the 80/10/10 diet might not have adverse performance effects if caloric intake is high enough. For any strength sport, or sports requiring a high degree of anaerobic respiration, the 80/10/10 diet is garbage.

  •   niclas16895  |

not nesserly less sodium but if you eat healthy vegan/frutarien than is does …i mean ok pringels are vegan too but thats not what i call vegan look at mikes videos for his bodyweight he benches a lot of weight or look at karl ess vegan bodybuilder here on youtube

  •   Elliott Atwell  |

Low sodium isn’t necessarily healthier either; sodium is an effective buffer, essential for fluid retention and skeletal muscle contraction. Mike, even for his weight, doesn’t bench press a lot; he has videos of him benching 250 with his butt coming off the bench; but to be competitive in his weight class as a powerlifter, even in local state competitions, he’d need to be benching 285+ with a pause, butt on the bench. Karl Ess is not strong either.

  •   niclas16895  |

karl ess is not a power lifter and he benches 160 kg …and he is natty don´t know what roidsheads you know that benches with mikes weight over 285lbsand you are probably a 15 year old little hater without any muscles so what ever also durian rider here on yt = great athlete, runner-cylist check out his videos he is vegan for over 12 years, his blood test was perfect it´s on yt too and a video of him winning a new york race for every body who don´t believe him

  •   Elliott Atwell  |

Where are you getting that Karl benches 160 kg? Even so, I paused 200 kg a month ago, I’m 22 and have only been powerlifting for a little over a year. At my last powerlifting comp in the 100% RAW federation (which is drug tested) the highest bench for Mike’s weight class was 320lbs, with the current state record for Virginia being 323lbs, the drug tested WR is 418. Durian Rider is an endurance athlete, he requires minimal amounts of muscle protein synthesis or testosterone for performance.

  •   niclas16895  |

mr. olypmia is also drug testedyou should come to germany here you would be a star vor powerlifting 200kg (but watch out we doesn´t let you any time to stop the roid taking before we test you )

  •   Elliott Atwell  |

Since when is the Mr. Olympia, the Arnold, or any other IFBB bodybuilding competition drug tested? For international federations (100% RAW and USAPL for example), drug testing is the same no matter what country it is in. In the 100 or 110 kg weight class a 200 kg bench isn’t going to be breaking any records; besides that was a gym lift (although it was paused), my biggest competition bench is 192 kg. I’m a mediocre powerlifter, so don’t give me examples of people far weaker than I am

  •   niclas16895  |

markus rühl: “on the stage we have to be clean”

  •   Elliott Atwell  |

Again, the IFBB has no drug testing for professional bodybuilding, this is simply an empirical fact.

  •   niclas16895  |

than take olympia as an example or lance armstrong or someother shit

  •   HighSteam  |

Who the fuck is this faggot?

  •   fungusjunky  |

Id like to start off sayin that his powerlift bench form is bad and he lifts his ass. That said this guy is strong and impressive and he’s that far above the average guy on a low protein vegan diet. There’s hardly any complex carbs even. I’m a vegetarian powerlifter an boxer/mma fighter but eat tons of eggs mostly whites. He’s not as strong as me pound for pound but I’m baffled he can do it with that diet. I give him props!

  •   fungusjunky  |

120Jml your a moron i eat 5 to six times a day smaller meals tho. The more cals you burn the more you gotta eat. And that’s why I’m 8 times The man then you’ll ever be sucker!

  •   WorldTruthSociety  |

If this guy doesn’t use hemp seed protein (edistein protein he is just lost I’m sorry and I barley ever call people names. He just isn’t serious without edistein protein.

  •   WorldTruthSociety  |

What’s the point of doing 100 push up if you can’t do it every day!? Guys in the marines do 500 pushups a day that 250 on each arm equivalent. That means you are under carbed my friend from lack of starches that you had to cut off the end of the video and not show us how many he did which was probably like 9. He must of had to not work out for a week and rest real good just to pull that 100 one arm push ups off! which is actually a lie because he admits he breaks his push ups up into groups of 50.

  •   HrHaakon  |

A powerlifter that only does two plates on the bench? Are you kidding me? He’s at best at intermediate level. This is just silly. And he doesn’t even rep it. Seriously vegans, if this is supposed to impress people, then you’re interviewing the wrong guys.Get the vegans that do 300kg squats or something. That might impress people. This is just not impressive.

  •   Raul Duke  |

I’ve done a lot of reserch and I’ve been waisting a ton of cals on protein that should have been used on carbs by way of raw fruit. I’ve been eating the 80/10/10 diet sort of add three raw egg whites after work outs but I’m not sure i need them i heel faster with less protein to make way for fruit. No supluments neither

  •   LiberatedMind1  |

19 jealous beef brained bigots who can’t accept fruit is our natural food

  •   Briz Monsta  |

2 plates!! HAHAH most of my HS football team does that for reps. This vegan fairy is such a joke !!!Most guys can do 2 plates this is just LOL

  •   BombasticWang  |

I think this dude is full of shit xD

  •   BombasticWang  |

if he was a powerlifted he would be stopping at the bottom xD

  •   Aubrey Boothe  |

So if I ever wanna get puny and weak,I’ll become a vegan.

  •   Jeremy Remele  |

Get a powerlifter up there that can rep out 300/400/500 (POUNDS) for each
major lift and I’ll consider going raw… and post my progress being raw
moving forward. I’m currently at 220/320/365..
