Coconut oil for thyroid and hormones? Searching online you will find lots and lots of videos and articles about coconut oil benefits. Yet, coconut oil is going to do nothing at all to help your hormonal and thyroid health.
So what are some of the claims regarding coconut oil and let’s see if they stand up to scrutiny:
Coconut oil is good for your thyroid. If you have an underactive thyroid, you should consume for example tablespoonful’s of coconut oil every day to help it!
So is there any scientific evidence to back-up this claim? No zero.
To help an underactive thyroid for example you need to make sure that it is receiving the nutrients that it needs like zinc, selenium, and iodine for example, and also that it’s not being harmed by an autoimmune attack.
So in reality coconut oil does not do anything special for the health of your thyroid gland.

Coconut Oil For Hormones?
Another claim is that coconut oil is great for your sex hormones, such as estrogens and testosterone. But, again, this claim does not stand up to scrutiny.
Coconut oil fat is not going to boost your sex hormones.
The production of these comes from eating a healthy diet and living healthily overall and not some particular type of fatty food that has no science to back up this claim.
Another claim you may hear is that your adrenals need healthy, “nourishing fats” to help them work properly and produce the adrenal hormones your body needs.
Notice that I used the word “nourishing” here.
Now, this is something you will see quite a lot from promoters of high-fat diets, such as Keto or Paleo.
I think they use this phrase to try and instill in the listener or reader that eating lots of fats, in general, are really a must-have for your body and really help it stay in tip-top shape.
But this is far from the truth.
So the claim that fats like coconut oil have some special ability to nourish your adrenal glands so they can produce adrenal hormones is just not true.
What your adrenals glands actually need is what your body needs in general.
A high carbohydrate, low fat, whole plant foods diet, and balance lifestyle is simply the best plan for your adrenal health.
Insulin resistance is another claim you may hear about in regards to coconut oil and how it can improve it.
Yet, the truth is far from this. It has been discovered by science insulin resistance is actually caused by too much fat in the diet.
Coconut oil is 100% fat and so a very unbalanced food. The very best foods you can eat are always going to be whole foods that contain not only fat but also protein, carbs and also micronutrients like vitamins etc.
Eating too much fat, in general, is not good for your health even if someone decides to label them as “nourishing fats”.
