If you have an autoimmune disease, in today’s article and video we’ll talk about the 3 diet rules to overcome autoimmune disease.
First off, what exactly is an autoimmune disease?
Well, basically an autoimmune disease is where your own body’s immune system mistakenly attacks your own body.
Your immune system normally guards your body against things like viruses and unwanted bacteria.
To do this, it sends out special immune cells to fight and destroy these unwanted invaders.
But in the case of autoimmune diseases, your immune system fails to tell the difference between unwanted foreign invaders in your body and your body’s own cells.
You can start producing immune antibodies that attack various parts of your body and lead to serious health conditions, including:
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Hashimoto’s thyroditis or Graves’ disease
- Multiple sclerosis
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Addison’s disease
Lupus, for example, can cause damage to many different parts of the body, including joints, blood, heart, lungs skin, kidneys and other organs. It can have a devastating effect upon someone’s quality of life.
I talk about the essential diet rules to overcome autoimmune disease in this video:
Essential Diet Rules To Overcome Autoimmune Disease
Diet plays a major role with regards to autoimmune diseases, but this is not something you will hear from the mainstream medical establishment.
They won’t tell you that 5% of the risk for developing an autoimmune problem is due to one’s genes, and that 95% of the risk is due to diet and lifestyle choices, as well as environmental toxins.
Nor do they appreciate that by changing your diet and lifestyle choices, you can literally turn certain genes off.
So here’re the 3 diet rules to overcome autoimmune diseases.
Number 1: Exclude the foods that can trigger autoimmune responses in the body.
Three such examples include:
- Gluten found in grain products from wheat, barley and rye
- Cow’s milk
In those with Hashimoto’s or Graves’ thyroid disease, if they eat gluten the immune system can send out antibodies to detect and destroy the gluten.
However, instead the body can end up attacking the thyroid by mistake.
Number 2: Switch to an autoimmune healing diet.
Fruits and vegetables contain phytonutrients which are vital for optimum health. You should eat these every day to prevent disease and create the level of health you want to experience.
A whole foods, plant-based diet that is based upon fruits and vegetables is ideal when it comes to improving and healing autoimmune diseases.
Flare-ups in autoimmunity can happen from time to time, especially if you experience a stressful event, are exposed to a toxin or you “fell off the wagon” with your diet. If you experience a flare up and you have fallen off your autoimmune friendly diet, the first step is to make sure you jump straight back on board.
Number 3: Commit to healing your gut.
Your gut helps your body to digest, absorb and assimilate the foods you eat.
Gut healing involves the removal of parasites that negatively impact your gut and health in general. They create toxins and cause an inflammatory response in your body, as well as steal your nutrition.
You’ll also need to focus on balancing your microbiome, so making sure that you’re creating an environment in your gut that attracts friendly bacteria.
These are the essential steps to help you super charge your recovery from an autoimmune disease and get on the road back to health.
