Vegan Diet Vs Keto Vs Paleo According To A Doctor

What diet is best for your health? Vegan, Paleo, Keto?

Today I am interviewing Dr Areli K Cuevas-Ocampo, M.D who follows a plant foods diet.

According to high fat promoters for diets like Paleo and Keto, the low carb, high fat diet is supposedly the go to diet that will turn your health around.

It supposed to help you release excess weight, rebalance your hormones, and get you off those “addictive” carbs, which they say are one of the root causes of your health problems.

So you cut right back on your carbohydrate intake to lose excess weight and restore your health and instead you’re told to eat lots of fats, full of cholesterol and saturated fat from foods like eggs, bacon, sausages, butter and grass fed beef, etc.

Is this really the best approach to helping you get your health back?
We talk about it in our interview.

To quote a Harvard Medical school article on sugar and its vital role in the human body:

“Glucose, a form of sugar, is the primary source of energy for every cell in the body. Because the brain is so rich in nerve cells, or neurons, it is the most energy-demanding organ, using one-half of all the sugar energy in the body.” (1)

Getting your sugar from carbohydrates, which includes fruits for example is the ideal fuel and the opposite to eating a diet that is high in fats like the Paleo and keto diets.

For example; if you greatly restrict carbs you can go into ketosis and this can have serious ramifications for your health.

Just some of these adverse effects include: (2, 3)

  • Kidney stones
  • Hypoglycemia
  • Skeletal fracture
  • Osteopenia/osteoporosis
  • Cardiomyopathy
  • Heart arrhythmia
  • Impaired mood and concentration
  • Poor growth in children
  • Nutrient deficiencies (on doctor supervised keto diets)
  • Shift towards very high cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood
  • Diarrhea, vomiting, nausea
  • Constipation
  • Death

Well, in today’s video with the help of Dr Areli K Cuevas-Ocampo, I’ll cut through the misinformation and help you understand why going high carb and low fat is the much healthier approach than the Paleo or Ketogenic diets that contain lots of animal fat and animal protein.

The tropics where I live are no paradise … mosquitos eat me up even in my own house. I hate to imagine living in a grass hut thousands of years ago.

I think we can say for sure that wherever humans live there are challenges to face.

I get why you would promote this lifestyle, however, as someone who has tried it all, and also from listening to others who have tried all the different diets, I can honestly say that no one method works for everyone. The reason being that some people have different dietary needs based on their blood chemistry and whatever else is happening in their body so to advise that everyone do this is just not good advice. What works for one, might be detrimental to another

I disagree and why is because I had a holistic Dr put me on a diet for my blood type and it messed me up even more as the meats where UNREASONABLE(wild this wild that) to even eat all the time and while my body felt very good at first then it was all downhill after that and MORE AND MORE supplements he sold me for that fix that never truely fixed it. Talk about being a patient for life of a ND just like in the conventional field of meds. I ask you if you have worked with someone like her that can GUIDE you and your body through this NOT just speak up about it and say it didn’t work for me. If we all said that then there would be no health care professional guiding us. A lot of ppl just don’t even ask for the help or won’t spend the money to get the help through their health issues but they complain to the masses. What I can tell you is that the most healthy ppl I have ever seen are not conventional eaters(SAD diet) not Paleo not keto not vegetarians, not vegans that cook their foods but Only Raw vegans that eat mostly fruit and some vegs and little seeds and nuts (80/10/10).
